D1NZ Whangarei Charges Ahead
Posted 05/03/2012 by taniarobson
D1NZ has spent a considerable amount of time, effort and money on the project and had confirmed the placement of concrete barriers through a local supplier in Auckland. There is a significant amount of work including environmental noise effect reports, resource consents, road closures and infrastructure that goes into the building of a street course all which D1NZ has been well underway with.
Three weeks ago, D1NZ was made aware of heavy contributions that made operating the Championship in Whangarei a very hard task. These included the contracted supplier cancelling the arrangement after the concrete barriers D1NZ were buying for permanent placement started cracking on short distances around Auckland. This then lead to the contractor pulling out of the deal to ship 70 barriers to Whangarei on the likelihood of barriers cracking and other suppliers were unrealistic in cost to D1NZ. We are pleased we have worked with MSNZ to tackle this issue.
There are other contributing factors that we are now working through with Council to ensure the events success and we are pleased to announce that we will be returning to Whangarei for the first time in two years for Round 5 of the D1NZ Championship as scheduled at the start of the season.
D1NZ is committed to its two long term goals in Whangarei of working with the associated parties to make the Championship Street Round happen on an annual basis so in future we can raise funds for our main goal of building a permanent facility in the Whangarei region to give Northland a driver training and drift facility. D1NZ will be constantly working on ways to make sure this happens.
