Whangarei Growers Market

Make the most of high quality local produce, entertainment and coffee every Saturday

With a subtropical climate and productive soils, Whangarei grows a bountiful array of quality produce, from exotic fruits to traditional vegetables.

It is this abundant and high quality local produce that led to establishment of the ‘Growers Market’, inspired by the traditional village markets of the United Kingdom and Europe, in 1998 and now held every Saturday morning in downtown Whangarei. The market was the first of its kind in New Zealand and is now the largest, with over 100 growers and stall holders selling produce they have grown themselves.

Every Saturday morning, locals flock to the market to shop, taking the opportunity to chat with growers and producers, be entertained by buskers and enjoy excellent coffee. It is a ‘true heart of the community’ event for Whangarei families.

You will find fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, milk and cheese, preserves and honey, to nuts and olive oil, along with seedlings and native plants, on sale and the market has a rule that all produce must originate in Northland.
