Whangarei Fritter Festival

Sorry, this event has been and gone.

The 19th of September 2018 marks the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New Zealand. We are celebrating that momentous occasion, and how far we’ve come since then.

From the original suffragists fighting for their rights to having a say in the running of the country, to Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s first Prime Minister to have a baby while in office… women seem to be going from strength to strength.

We have invited artists from around New Zealand to respond to and interpret this wonderful subject in their work, and join us for a group exhibition. From painting and printmaking, to embroidery, sculpture and ceramics, we’ll revel in the diversity of talent and ideas around this liberating topic.

Participating artists include Angela Rowe, Kelly Pretty, Sally Spicer, Jane Whiting, Ali Goodman, Alice Astell, Linda Sabbage, Jane Cunningham, Christine Cook, Valerie Hunton, Paul Harris, Helen Hughes, Di West, Joan Emery, and International artist Claire Price.
