Infrastructure
Whangarei has a deepwater port, airport and hospital, find out more about our key infrastructure below.
Northport is New Zealand’s northernmost deep-water commercial port. They are the closest port to most international markets and located less than two hours from Auckland, New Zealand’s main commercial hub. Their unique position combined with deep-water capabilities means they have a vital role to play in our national economy and global trade.
Whangārei has a busy regional airport with comfortable passenger facilities. It operates frequent scheduled flights to Auckland and Wellington.
In the future the airport may move, there is a project underway to ‘investigate the need and options for a new airport for Whangārei and the opportunities that would create’. Click here for more information.
Whangārei Hospital is Northland District Health Board’s largest and provides secondary specialist care to all of Northland and has 246 inpatient beds.
