Whangārei Falls - Otuihau
This picturesque waterfall is 26.3m high and cascades over basalt cliffs. Two accessible viewing platforms above the waterfall give spectacular views of the falls and the forest below.
Otuihau has a spiritual, healing and cultural connection for tangata whenua. The waterways that flow in and out of Otuihau provided a variety of food sources. The base of these majestic falls is the beginning to the Hātea river, the main waterway that flows to the Whangārei Harbour.
Parking and public toilets are at Boundary Road, Tikipunga, 5kms from the city centre and on the way to the Tutukākā Coast.

Piroa Falls
A small waterfall that is big on beauty. Enjoy a 10min walk through beautiful native forest, cross the bridge across the Ahuroa River and arrive at the gorgeous Piroa Falls, part of the Waipū Gorge Scenic Reserve.
The turn off to Piroa Falls is off Waipū Gorge Road at the northern side of the Brynderwyn Hills, just 14kms from Waipū or 50kms from Whangarei city.

Omiru, Piroa and Raumanga Falls
Omiru Falls -Wairua River
The 80km Wairua River was once a major food source for local Māori and a busy highway for waka (canoes). The waterfall site, was significant because it had been a major defensive point for iwi during inter-tribal warfare.
A hydroelectric plant has been operating on the river since 1916. Located 24kms west of Whangārei city on Wairua Falls Road, off Mangakahia Road. The waterfall can be viewed from the carpark at the top or you can walk down to the base via the bush track.
Paranui Falls
A 24m waterfall hidden away in the A H Reed Memorial Park, a remnant of the original, magnificent kauri forests which were once extensive throughout Northland. Find the falls by a short detour off the main boardwalk, crossing the Waikoromiko Stream which leads to the waterfall.

Raumanga Falls
Take the pleasant 15min walk through park and native forest to discover this cascading 15m waterfall with natural pools. Follow the Raumanga Valley Reserve path, on Raumanga Valley Road and 3kms from the city centre, to the waterfall.
Tāheke Falls
A 3km loop track leads through forest that features a grove of regenerating kauri trees. Take the short detour to the viewing platform overlooking the waterfalls and enjoy the impressive view downstream over the Tāheke Scenic Reserve. The track to the waterfall begins at the end of Hoban Road, Whareora, 14km north east of Whangārei.
