Getting around Whangārei
Whangārei city is a small city well served by a public bus service that provides transport to most areas. The city centre is mostly flat and walking is an easy option.
Shuttles and tour companies provide a regular service to coastal areas, or you may find that renting a vehicle will provide you with the flexibility to explore these fabulous areas.
Rental cars are available from the airport or from the central city. One way hire may be available. You need to be at least 21 years old and possess a current driver’s licence or international driving permit to hire a vehicle.
There is a choice of local taxis and shuttle companies that meet scheduled flights at the airport.
Charter flights (helicopter or fixed wing planes) from the Whangārei domestic airport, are a great way to view Whangārei’s stunning coastline and rural interior.
