One of the benefits of the schools here is the choice between urban and rural, this can provide your child a great start to their education.
Whangārei has 56 schools throughout the district, they range from primary, intermediate, and secondary with an average size of 300 students (Education Counts, August 2021).
Most of the schools in Whangārei are state schools and most are not zoned. There is one private school Huanui College who offer the Cambridge International Curriculum.
Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rawhitiroa provides education from Year 1 through to Year 13 in Te Reo Māori.
Blomfield Special School are at the heart of personalised and inclusive learning for children and young people with additional needs in the North. Blomfield is both a school and a resource centre for the community of Tai Tokerau to better support these learners in a range of settings.
There are also connections to community and schools through events, one of the major events is the Te Tai Tokerau Festival. A non-competitive event, that inspires passion for kapa haka and connection across communities with 30 schools performing.
